another black apple doll!

Our neighbor came over for the afternoon, so the girls helped make this doll for her. Her sister was the recipient of the previous doll. After her mom told me that Big sister was taking little sister's doll to bed at night, I decided that this big sister needed her own! She picked out the fabric and ribbon and stuffed all the parts! I don't know why this picture looks so odd and stretchy! Sorry! Oh, and my own daughter insisted that the doll be posed with the matching bird!

Pear pincushions

Fun birthday gifts for fellow sewers: pincushions! I got the pattern from UK lass in US. I changed it a little: I made the stem a small, flat piece of fleece and I didn't make a cute little leaf because I didn't have any green fleece sitting around. I hope my friends like them as much as I do!
very cute! And this little birdy is a free pattern from spool. I may be making many more to make the ever- popular bird mobile. (I even picked up some sticks on our bike ride this morning!) I love that it is whimsical and natural all at the same time.

baby taggie ball

One of my favorite quick baby shower gifts is this taggie ball! I use the pattern from Purl bee.  I cut little 1 1/2- 2" strips of ribbon folded over, then pinned them into the seams before sewing. Very fun, quick, cute project!

black apple doll

These dolls are beautiful and simple and easy to make. They are classics. There is so much room for creativity (or in this case, simplicity). We did this one with fleece arms and face and hair instead of felt and I expect it to hold up much better (our felt ones are getting those little fuzzy balls. Probably because we used cheap felt instead of wool felt, but who can afford wool felt?) Plus, now she's washable. This was a first birthday present for our little neighbor. Her big sister loves it so much, though, that I think she will need one, too!
